Our Wedding

We would like to thank all of our family and friends for making our wedding celebration one of the greatest nights of our lives! The night seemed to blaze by like it was only 15 minutes. I suppose, that’s how time flies when you enjoy yourself.
I woke up to a cloudy and sparsely rainy day, but what a beautiful day it was. I was about to marry the love of my life, and nothing could spoil that. The wedding ceremony was in the evening, so the groomsmen and I, had a leisurely morning. The girls had a much more full day of preparation. Most of their day would be involved with hair and make-up, as one might suspect, whereas, most of the guys’ time would be spent learning how to tie a bow tie. James (the bestman) and I took the extra time we had in the morning to deliver breakfast to the girls (croissant’s from Roy’s Station to supplement another delivery from CafĂ© Rosalena, our favorite breakfast burrito spot). I also had to run my own little secret errand to pick up of a pair of custom earrings I had ordered for Malaya, which were literally finished that morning. The trip to Roy’s was the perfect cover story to leave the hotel. This was to be her wedding day gift, along with a extra special iPad from Uncle Steve.
Our photo shoot was scheduled for 3pm in the afternoon. Malaya and I aren’t superstitious, so seeing each other before the ceremony was not an issue, but we did refrain from seeing each other until the afternoon. I still wanted a little element of surprise.
The reveal was outstanding. When the time came, my groomsmen grabbed a hold of me and turn me 180, telling me I can’t look back. I hear the clatter of many high heels echo though the lobby hallways behind me. There are girls giggling, and guys chuckling. It took a few minutes before my boys turned me around and led me down the hallway where the girls were hiding out. When I turned the corner I saw a wall of open umbrellas. Malaya was concealed behind them. I hear, “You ready?!”, followed by a count down, and simultaneously the umbrella’s gave way, revealing my beautiful wife-to-be. She was absolutely gorgeous. I could not have imagined her to be any more stunning than she was that day. I could feel my smile stretch wide across my face uncontrollably. She was wearing the earrings I bought for her and they looked perfect on her.
We took our photos and finished with enough time to freshen up and relax a bit before the ceremony. Malaya and I went our separate ways. The next time I would see her would be at the alter.
As I waited in the Sacristy with Father Isaiah Mary and my groomsmen, I thought I might be nervous, or get a bit of “cold feet”, but neither. I was pumped. I was excited, and I was riding high on life. On the way in to the church, I ran in to some old friends and family who I had not seen in years. It was great to see them, and this was only the start of many familar faces to see through out the night. All had taken the time to honor us with their company and help celebrate this special day with us. I couldn’t be more happy.
Six O’clock had come. The organ started to play the entrance music. The entourage had made their way down the aisle. Father Isaiah Mary, James and I had made our way around the alter. It felt surreal standing there in anticipation. I had already seen Malaya earlier that day, but I was just as excited to see her walk down that aisle, and when she did, she was radiant. She looked so happy. She was so beautiful.
Father Isaiah read us an awesome homily littered with Star Trek references, relating our culminated love to Dr. Crusher and Capt. Picard. Obviously, a tribute to Malaya’s boundless obsession with science fiction (kidding).
We recited our vows, which I’m pretty sure I jumbled up a few words, and we exchanged rings. Our rings fit perfectly. My ring felt comfortable and natural, so far so good!
Then came the kiss, our first as a married couple. I had been looking forward to this all night, and when the moment came I planned to take full advantage of it. Apparently, the audience took notice. The popular consensus seemed to be, that the kiss was very, very long. To quote a few folks, “A Guiness World Record.” We couldn’t help ourselves. We had no idea what people would think of it, but we have no shame. It was our moment, and it was everything it was suppose to be. Perfect.
We linked arms as we exited down the aisle to processional music of the Star Wars: Throne Room Theme played on the Cathedral’s century old organ. Contrary to some people’s belief, the music choice idea was actually from Malaya… and that’s why I love her.
We continued the celebration across the street at the San Jose Museum of Art. After months of planning, it was absolutely AMAZING to see how it all came together. The museum looked better than I could imagine. The floral sculpture that Malaya’s sister, Soraya of Design In Bloom, had built for us was perfect. The food was delicious. The drinks were flowing. Our friend, Eric, put together an amazing synchronized, dual projection, slideshow (view the slideshow here) of our photos that felt at home with the museums many art exhibits. I can go on a rant about every detail of the night, but I don’t think that any words could tell the story the night as well as the photos from our photographer, Mauricio (photos below). If you haven’t already seen it, be sure to check out the online slideshow of the night, that he put together for us.
It was most impressive to see all of our family and friends who had come from near and far to share our celebration with us. From across the country, New York, to across the globe, Indonesia.
We were happy to hear that people enjoyed themselves as much as we did that night. We didn’t want the night to end, but at least we have a fantastic collection of photographs that capture all the emotion and fun throughout the night.
